Codex Reset guide: check your weekly usage and reset time
This guide separates your private weekly cycle from a public global Codex Reset. The live dashboard forecasts global events; only Codex can show the usage and reset time attached to your account.
Check your usage source of truth
Run /status in Codex to see the active model and the remaining usage information available to your account. Run /usage to inspect recent activity and redeem an earned reset when one is available.
In the desktop experience, Settings → Usage shows included usage, purchased credits, and the next scheduled reset information provided for your account. A public Codex Reset tracker cannot read this private account data.
Know which reset you mean
Weekly usage cycle
Your routine usage ceiling follows the weekly cycle shown in your own Codex status. Its remaining percentage and reset time are private to your account.
Global public reset
An unscheduled shared-limit restoration announced for many users at once. This is the event our dashboard tracks and forecasts; it does not reveal your weekly timer.
Use an earned reset deliberately
Some eligible accounts receive a saved reset—sometimes called an earned or banked reset—that can be redeemed manually. Check /usage for availability and expiry information. It is separate from both your weekly cycle and the global Codex Reset forecast.
Stretch usage until the next reset
- Scope agent tasks tightly instead of running open-ended, multi-hour loops.
- Use a lighter model for boilerplate, formatting, and simple refactors.
- Split large refactors into smaller, reviewable chunks across sessions.
- Check the public reset forecast before a long push when your weekly usage is low.
